How to Make a Coconut Lotion Bar
This winter season, let's make something which is easy to carry and easy to apply. But, no compromise on moisturization. You might have guessed it already. Yes, it is a lotion bar.
Lotion bars can be used by kids, adults and anyone. Just need to check on the allergic ingredients and essential oils used.
I am a huge fan of chocolate and coconut fragrances or smell. So, I have included Coconut Fragrance oil.
Generally lotion bar contain 1/3 part oil, 1/3 part butter and 1/3 part wax. Rest can be any exotic oil, fragrance oil, Vitamin E, color. Different combination of oils, butters and waxes give different texture, like Beeswax, Soya wax are soft waxes and have lower melting points than Candelilla or Carnauba wax. So, if we want to include Carnauba or Candelilla wax, usage rate will be less when compared to beeswax or soya wax.
Butters or Oils or Waxes which have good smell like Cocoa butter, plum oil, rose wax, jasmine wax can be added and fragrance oil can be excluded.
Also, herbs (dried marjoram) or resins(Frankincense, Myrrh) can be infused (hot or cold) to give some mild scent and anti-oxidant properties.
If the oils used have a less shelf life like Grapeseed or Rosehip, Vitamin E Tocopherol can be added to prevent from rancidity.
Essential oils which are soothing like Rose Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood can be used. Do not include citrus essential oils which are photo sensitive like Orange, Lemon because skin will be damaged when exposed to sunlight. Fragrance oils can also be included in place of essential oils.
I would prefer unscented or naturally scented products when using for kids (Without essential oils).
Let us now see the ingredients used to make this lotion bar.
Ingredients required: (30g batch)
Phase A
Kokum Butter 30% - 9g (1 tablespoon)
Beeswax 25% - 7.5g (1 tablespoon)

Vitamin E - 1% - 0.3g (10 drops)

*** Calculation in tablespoon, teaspoon and drops is a rough estimate. It is always best to weigh in grams rather than drops or teaspoon.

Procedure:
- Measure Phase A ingredients in a beaker and melt on double boiler.
- Once melted add watermelon seed oil
- Remove from the heat and add Vitamin E oil and Coconut Fragrance Oil.
- Stir it properly and pour in silicon molds.
- Unmold it after sometime or put in a freezer to harden.
- Cocoa butter, shea butter can be substituted for Kokum Butter
- Soya wax, Rice bran wax are good substitutes for Bees wax. Carnauba wax or Candelilla wax can also be used. If used at 25%, it will be harder than beeswax bar.
- Olive oil, Castor oil, Almond oil or any good shelf life carrier oil can be used in place of Coconut oil and watermelon seed oil.
- Mica can be used for color.
- Fragrance oil is of personal choice. But since the theme is coconut, coconut fragrance or cocoa would be a decent swap.
