How to Make Rose Hair Conditioner for Frizzy Hair?
My Story on Frizzy hair and Commercial Hair Conditioner:
Whenever I go to a grocery store or beauty store, my search is for
the Hair Conditioner. My hair is neither curly nor straight but becomes frizzy after the wash 😕
I tried multiple commercial hair conditioners but was not completely satisfied. I have started experimenting different ingredients and types of conditioners once I started making skin care products. So, here is the conditioner which I made recently and I am quite satisfied.
Sometimes, I need to use leave on conditioner to tame the baby hair and ends. But, my hair now feels silky and soft. I have added dimethicone here. I tried Coco Caprylate which was a natural alternative for silicone but it doesn't have the same feel as dimethicone. My reason for not using silicones was that I saw some posts with the issues on biodegradability. I have read many documents and articles after that, I couldn't find anything related to dimethicone. So, I wanted to give a try.
(If you find anything related to it, please send me over. I would like to read)
If you don't want to add silicones or polyquat, it is completely fine. You can add water or glycerine in place of those. But, you might not have the same feel if your hair is dry and frizzy.
Washing hair twice a week with good shampoo will prevent build up if caused any 👉by silicones.

Ingredients required:
Heated Oil Phase: (Ingredients that need to be melted and are oil soluble)
- Cocoa Butter 3%
- Coconut Oil (Infused with Curry Leaf) 7%
- Behentrimonium Chloride 3%
- Cetostearyl Alcohol 2%
Dimethicone 350- 4% (will add once emulsifiers are melted and is off the stove)
Water Phase: (Water Soluble Ingredients)
Distilled water 74.1%
Cool Down Phase: (Heat Sensitive Ingredients)
- Vit E 0.1%
- Geogard ECT (Preservative) 0.8%
- Polyquat 7- 2%
- Rose Geranium E.O 1%
- Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein 3%
Procedure:
Pour all the heated oil ingredients in a beaker
Check the weight of water once ingredients are off the stove. I generally top up with 10% of water in advance to compensate water loss due to heat.
Add dimethicone to the heated oil beaker once removed from stove. Dimethicone should not be heated for a long time and beyond 50 degree C. So, don't add it to ingredients that will go on double boiler here.
Add Oil phase to water slowly and stir it continuously using immersion blender (Coffee Frother can be used if quantity is less than 100g). Give a gap of few seconds and mix it again until you see the viscosity similar to cream.
Once the temperature comes down, you can add cool down ingredients and stir it properly.
Pour it in a tottle bottle and label it.
And, here is the frizzy free hair conditioner.
Shelf life:
I generally use my conditioners within 3-6 months.
Substitutions: (Viscosity and Feel differs with substitutions and ingredients from different suppliers. Also note that usage rate will differ for alternatives)
- Shea butter or mango butter can be used in place of Cocoa butter
- Any light weight oil (like Argan, Camellia) can be substituted with Coconut oil.
- BTMS 50 can be used in place of Behentrimonium Chloride.
- Cetostearyl alcohol is added to stabilize emulsion. Different co-emulsifier or xanthan gum can be used. But, need to check the viscosity.
- Natural silicone like Lexfeel or Cetiol can be used in place of Dimethicone
- Broad spectrum preservative like Liquid Germall Plus can be added in place of Geogard ECT. Check with the supplier for the usage rate.
- I personally like Rose Geranium so much. So, I have added it here. Any E.O or F.O can be added. Check with the supplier for the usage rate.
- Honeyquat can be used in place of polyquat. (I haven't got a chance to work with honeyquat)
- Hydrolyzed rice protein or silk protein can be used in place of Hydrolyzed wheat protein.
