DIY Whipped Green Tea and Cocoa Butter

Hey all! Today we are going to see how to make this lovely smelling body butter. This can be used as lip butter too, isn't it amazing! Yup, I thought body butters would be greasy. Most of the months here are hot and we don't use body butters or lotions much because it feels heavy. But, this is not so greasy. I really like to use it in evenings. It is easy to make and doesn't need a lot of ingredients. Let us see the ingredients used.

Ingredients used and Why?

Cocoa Butter, the main reason is the scent. Who doesn't like unscented Cocoa butter which smells like a chocolate, Yum? It is a hard butter which can be easily rubbed on skin. This is often used because it prevents the body butter to melt during hot days. Kokum Butter is also a hard butter.

Green tea butter, it isn't a true butter since butter cannot be extracted from green tea. Green tea leaves or powder is infused or blended in other butter or hydrogenated oil to form green tea butter. Green tea is rich in anti-oxidants like EGCG.

Safflower oil is a light carrier oil and also doesn't have a strong scent which doesn't interfere with cocoa.

Arrow root powder and Lexfeel N are used to give dry feel. These are completely optional if you are okay with a bit buttery feel.

Temperatures are high in day time in the area I stay and often green tea butter melts when not stored in fridge. It happens with other soft butters too. So, I have included Stearic acid to prevent it from melting and to have a base. Again, addition of this depends upon the area and climate where you are.

Note: Stearic acid can be derived from animal fat or from plant oils. If you are a vegetarian, check with supplier if it is derived from plant oils (fats) or not.

Last one is Vitamin E Tocopherol to prevent it from going rancid.

You can swap ingredients with something which have similar texture and properties but it won't be the same. Every time you swap ingredient, you aren't making the same, it is similar but not same.

You may ask me, hey Mahalakshmi, where do you get these ingredients? I will leave the supplier details in the bottom of the blog.

How to make it?

1) Put heated-oil-phase ingredients in a beaker and heat on double boiler until everything is melted.

2) Add Lexfeel N after removing the beaker from double boiler. I didn't find Lexfeel N to evaporate when heated but just to be sure we are adding after removing from heat.

3) Now whip it in a wide mouth beaker or bowl. Be careful if you are whipping in glass beaker. I have accidentally dropped the glass beaker while whipping due to the force. I prefer to use heat safe plastic or steel bowl.

4) Put in fridge for few minutes like 5 minutes to thicken a bit, then whip again.

5) You can put ice cubes in a larger bowl and place this bowl over it and whip like Marie from Humblebee and me does.

6) Once it comes to room temperature, add Vitamin E Tocopherol and mix it or whip it.

7) Butter turns to lighter color and fluffy texture. You can pour it in a beaker or use a piping bag for a nice look.

It turns to balm consistency after sometime. But it is still easy to take and apply.

It doesn't turn skin to white. Sorry, the first one appears dark due to lighting differences. I wanted to show how it looks, shiny and a bit oily.
